Dwelling
This sophomore year project focused on community design, client interests, and efficiency. The studio was split into a community of eight people and given a site in the Colorado Rocky mountains divided into eight plots with a variety of existing foundations. We were tasked with developing guidelines for design aesthetics and sustainability in order to create a cohesive community. Each student was also assigned a unique historical figure from which to determine design decisions.
I was assigned the engineer and artist, Alexander Calder and a site with parallel footings on either side of a stream. Drawing cues from Calder's mobiles, I sought to suspend a building above the river while imbuing a sense of whimsy and humor.
